Accession 202-10-1 Pistol Cal 45, US, M1911, Colt, Serial # 708445 The pistol was manufactured by Colt in 1924 and in 1925 before minor modifications were made and the model 1911A-1 was introduced. The pistol holster has noticable burn marks and the pistol is reported to have been the only such surviving weapon to be recovered from a shipwreck in the Pacific theatre. The pistol was transferred to the command by USS WASP LHD-1, The ship the pistol was recovered from is assumed to be the USS WASP CV-7.
