Description
English: Phuoc Tuy Province, South Vietnam. July 1970. Handling the tiller on an aluminium assault craft is Corporal Bill Cummings of Elizabeth Bay, SA, a member of the 1st Field Squadron, Royal Australian Engineers. Soldiers from the Assault Pioneer Platoon, 2RAR /NZ (ANZAC) (The ANZAC Battalion comprising 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment and a component from the 1st Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment), together with the engineers from the 1st Field Squadron, turned sailors to conduct riverine operations in the Rung Sat, the vast tangle of waterways and mangrove swamps which form the western coastline. On left, beside Corporal Cummings, is a Vietnamese National Policeman, who interviewed sampan owners.
