Title
1st C. AD Gilded Rosette brooch - reverse
Description
English: Gilded copper-alloy Rosette/Thistle brooch of probable 1st C. AD date (most are Claudian [AD 43-54). Has a sub-circular plate measuring 26.4mm diameter and decorated with a radiating triangle design (probably engraved) within two decorative borders. The plate has been gilded - much of this gilding survives. The bow curves backwards from the centre of the plate and has ribbed decoration, the ribs being intermittently gilded. Where the bow joins to the plate it has been decorated with a similar triangular style to the plate. This decoration is also gilded. The spring lies between the bow and the plate and has terminals which have linear decoration and are gilded. The reverse of the brooch is plain. Pin and pin lug are missing.
