| Description |
The VT Commodore was built from August 1997-October 2000. The 1st of the 3rd generation Commodores, again based on the Opel Omega, a stronger, safer rounded body. Independent rear suspension was standard across the range. The 3.8 V6 was carried over from the VS, the Series II VT saw the introduction of the Gen III 5.7 V8 replacing the 5.0. Also the grilles on the Series II got silver accents on the base models and thicker horizontal chrome bars on Berlina and Calais. No new shape ute was available until the next model, the previous VS shape continued on until the end of 2000. Models available; Executive; 3.8 6 cyl, manual trans (Opt auto), 4 wheel discs Acclaim; auto trans, safety pack; ABS, IRS, airbag Berlina; 3.8, auto trans, air con, power windows, alloys Calais; velour interior, trip computer and cruise control S; 3.8 6 cyl, rear spoiler, sports interior, FE2 suspension SS; 5.0 V8, rear spoiler, sports interior, FE2 suspension, alloys. The SS was what the HSV cars were based on. HSV built performance versions for Holden, available were; Manta, Clubsport, GTS, Senator, Grange and Maloo Ute. (XU6 and Clubsport R8 available with Series II) Engines; 147kw 3.8 Ecotec V6, 171kw 3.8 Supercharged V6 or 179kw 5.0 V8 (HSV 195kw 5.0, later 220kw 5.7) |
