Description

The 1985-87 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was a high-performance version of the Ford Sierra. It was the result of a Ford Motorsport project with the purpose of producing an outright winner for Group A racing in Europe 1653 were made. In 1987 500 special race version were built by Tickford, the RS500. The main difference to the Sierra 3 door Cosworth was the uprated Cosworth competition engine, with larger turbo and intercooler Externally it got the large whale tail and a redesigned front spoiler with intake grilles to supplement brake cooling. Most were black but 56 were white and 52 blue Engine; twin cam, 16-valve engine based on Fords Pinto engine.

The RS500 was highly successful in Australian touring car racing with Dick Johnson Racing dominating the 1988 and 1989 Australian Touring Car Championship's with Johnson and John Bowe finishing 1-2 in both years. The pair also won the 1989 Tooheys 1000 at Bathurst while Tony Longhurst and Tomas Mezera had won the 1988 Tooheys 1000 in an RS500
