Deutsch: 06.08.1986 DDR 9803 [08499] Mylau, Burg 1: Burg (GMP: 50.618285,12.265690). Die Burg Mylau ist die größte Burg des Vogtlandes. Der in Mylau beschworene Kaisermythos gründet sich auf Kaiser Karl IV. (1316-1378), der die Burg 1367 erwarb und im gleichen Jahr besuchte. Die Burg indes ist älter und entstand schon um 1180. 1460 verkaufte Kurfürst Friedrich der Sanftmütige von Sachsen (1412-1464) das Schloß Mylau an die Metzsch, welche den Besitz bereits seit Ende des 14. Jahrhunderts als Amtleute verwaltet hatten. Unter ihnen vollzog sich der Übergang zum Wohnschloß. Nach mehreren Eigentümerwechseln übernahm 1792 Johann Friedrich Golle den Besitz. Ihn interessierte vor allem das zur Burg gehörende Vorwerk in Obermylau. Die Burg verfiel. Zwischen 1808 und 1828 betrieb der Mylauer Textilunternehmer Christian Gotthelf Brückner in den Burggebäuden eine große Baumwollspinnerei. Der alte Glanz lebte auf, als die Stadt Mylau 1892 das Rittergut Mylau und damit auch die Burg kaufte. Die Instandsetzung der "Kaiserburg", die bis 1909 andauerte, war mit einem historisierenden Um- und Neubau der Burggebäude verbunden. Neben dem Bergfried wurde 1894 bis 1896 anstelle des Palas der mittelalterlichen Burg das Rathaus der Stadt Mylau errichtet. Heute wird die Burg als Museum genutzt. Blick in den 1. Burghof.
