The VK Commodore was built from Feb 1984-Feb 1986. The VK was quite a major update on this body, new 6 light window set up, all plastic bumper/skirt front and rear, new look grille and tail lights and new dash. There were no long wheelbase Statesman or Utility versions in the VB-VL Commodore series, so the WB Kingswood shape continued on to fill the gap. New Black engines with computer controlled ignition. The 2850 6 and 4200 V8 were dropped and in 1985, the 5044cc V8 down to 4987 for Group A Homologation rules. 5 levels of trim were available: SL; 6 cyl, manual trans, cloth interior, bucket seats. Executive; auto trans, power steering, cloth interior Berlina; auto trans, cord cloth interior, console, tacho. Calais; auto trans, digital dash, trip computer, cruise, velour interior, alloys. SS; V8, Man trans, performance running gear, sports interior, alloys. The Holden Dealer Team, run by Peter Brock, built performance cars for Holden, making money for the race team and to homologate parts for racing. Available was the Executive based Group A, Berlina based Group 3 and Calais based Director. Engines; 86kw 3300 6 cyl, 106kw 3300 EFI 6 cyl, 126kw 5.0 |
