Title
1980 Roman folding knife handle.jpg
Description
English: Cast copper alloy folding knife handle length 61mm, width 16mm, thickness 12mm, weight 14.72g. The handle is in the shape of a stretching animal possibly a lion. The handle has a flat, crescent-shaped back terminal, it then curves in to form a long, narrow handle with a moulded waist to represent the lion’s rear haunches. The animal’s head pronounced and has moulded ears, pronounced brows, but most of the detail has been lost due to corrosion. The beast’s forelegs extend from beneath the head, stretching out in front of the animal to grasp the front folding blade of the knife.

Below the fan are two pierced lugs that would have held the blade, there is a small section of heavily corroded iron attached at this point 14mm long which is all the remains of the blade.

An example has been recorded on the data base at DENO-AEBF93
