Morgan 4-4 was the Morgan Motor Company's first car with 4 wheels, Earlier Morgans had been 3 wheelers, only, typically with V-twin engines, so the term 4-4 meant 4 wheels with 4 cylinders. The 1936-54 Series I 4-4 had the 1122cc Coventry Climax 4 cyl engine. The 4 seat version introduced in 1937, drophead coupe in 1938 and larger 1267cc OHV in 1939. The 1955 Series II 4/4 got a new sloped back, rounded nose and a new chassis, powered by the 1172cc Ford 100E engine. The 1960 Series III 4/4; 997cc Ford 105E engine and a wider track The 1961 Series IV 4/4; 1340cc Ford Classic 109E engine The 1963 Series V 4/4; 1500cc Cortina 116E engine The 1968 1600 got the 1600cc Kent crossflow engine. In 1950 the Morgan Plus 4 was introduced, like the early 4-4, a flat nose car. The Plus 4 got a six cyl engine, originally the 2088cc from thr Standard Vanguard. In 1953, like the 4/4, it got the round nose and also now used the 1991cc Triumph TR2 engine and then in 1963, the 2138cc Triumph TR4 engine.. |
