Summary

[edit]
Description

Ford's Granada was built from 1972-94 in Cologne in Germany, although also built in Dagenham in the UK until 1976. Three generations were produced over this period; The 1972-77 Granada Mk I replaced the Ford Zephyr/Zodiac. At first, lower models in the range were called the Ford Consul, from 1975 on they were all called Granadas. They were available as a 2 or 4 door saloon, a 5 door estate and a 2 door fastback coupé. The early (1972–73) coupé had slightly different sheet metal; more pronounced coke bottle styling, from 1974, straighter lines. Engines were 2000cc Essex V4 or 2500 and 3000cc Essex V6 The 1977-82 Granada Mk II lost that coke bottle styling, a squarer, straighter car, it got a slatted grille. the 2 door Coupe was discontinued. The old Essex engines replaced with V6 Cologne engines The 1985-94 Granada Mk III was pretty much a rebadged Ford Scorpio, The Granada name only used in the UK and Ireland, it got the rounded aerodynamic look similar to the Ford Sierra.

The Granada very nearly replaced the Australian Falcon in the 80s, Ford Australia imported a Mk II in the late 70s for evaluation, but ended up designing and building their own car, the XD Falcon , it did get this European styling tho.
