| Description |
The Hillman Hunter was built in the UK from 1966-79, available as a 4 door saloon, 5 door estate or a 2 door coupe. Badge engineered versions were the Singer Vogue, Singer Gazelle and the Humber Sceptre Mk III (upmarket versions of the Hunter) In 1968 the Hunter Deluxe replaced the Minx as the base model then there was the Super, GL, the sporty GT and top GLS. Rootes Australia had merged with Chrysler Australia in 1965, so these Hillman Hunters were assembled from CKD kits by Chrysler Australia from 1967. The first model, the HB, round headlights, the base 1496cc model was the Arrow (UK Minx) and then the 1725cc Hunter. From 1969 was the HC, now rectangular headlights, the base model was now the Hunter, then the Hunter Royal (UK Singer Vogue) and the sporty model was the Hunter GT (UK Humber Sceptre) also available the Safari estate. The 1970 facelift was the HE, new grille and smaller rectangular headlights. Base model was now the Hustler, and because of insurance costs, the GT was now the Royal 660 with twin carbs and Rostyles wheels. The Hunter was phased out in 1973 in Australia. Engine; 1725cc 4 cyl, base models had a 1500cc engine. |
