Title
196 42burins.JPG
Description
English: 42 Burins
    Mesolithic-Neolithic
Sizes range from 34mm long, 31mm wide, 11mm thick to 20mm by 10mm by 4mm

This group of artefacts have a stepped blade down one side, which is created by knapping away half of the blade. This results in half of the blade stepping down about 2-3mm, this edge has a steep bevel. The step in most cases is at a right angle. Many of the burins resemble modified late Mesolithic blade (small thin, with one or two arrieses. The remainder are larger flatter and could derive from the Neolithic flak technology.

About 20% have an off white/light grey patina, most are mid grey/blue patina, 10% have a dark grey/blue patina. About 10% have the remains of the creamy colour cortex on its surface.

These are part of a large assemblage of 511 flints. See GLO-BCDA95 for further information on the rest of the assemblage.

See the following records for a more detailed description of all the various tool types in this assemblage.
