The ZA Fairlane was built from March 1967-March 1968. The first Fairlane to be designed and built in Australia. Earlier Fairlanes sold there were Australian assembled American cars. The ZA was based on the Australian XR Falcon, although the ZA did look similar to the American Falcon. The XR Falcon was a completely new design, with its long nose and short tail Mustang styling It retained the traditional round Falcon tail lamps and single headlight grille, like the earlier Falcons. Good news was a V8 and front disc brakes were now available with the XR. The ZA Fairlane got a twin headlight grille and square taillights, it was 127 mm longer in the wheelbase. The front and centre remained the same as the Falcon, but it got a longer boot, the rear quarters and boot were borrowed from the American Galaxie, the rear seat was moved back for more leg room. The ZA was available in base Fairlane Custom or upmarket Fairlane 500. The base Fairlane got the 6 cyl and a bench front seat, the 500 got the V8, a ribbed strip below the doors, bucket seats and woodgrain dash, Engines; Fairlane; 121hp 200 cu in Super Pursuit 6
