| Description |
From 1962, Fords mainstream cars were available in three sizes; the compact Falcon, the mid sized Fairlane and the full size Galaxie. The look of the Fairlane was updated in 1966 to match the look of the new look Galaxie, featuring vertical stacked headlights. The base model was available in 2 and 4 door Sedan and Wagon. The Fairlane 500 got extra mouldings, carpet and sill moulds. (2 and 4 door Sedan, 2 door Hardtop, Convertible and Wagon. The 500 XL got a more refined interior, bucket seats and chrome trim. (2 door Hardtop and Convertible), the Wagon was the 500 Squire. The new GTs got the 390 V8 and 4 speed Toploader (GTAs got Cruiseomatic), a special hood, striping, heavy duty suspension, disc brakes and a sports steering wheel. (2 door Hardtop and Convertible) Mid year, Ford produced 57 Fairlane 500 2 door hardtops with 'R-code' 427 CID V8s and 4 speed. Built to qualify the engine/trans combination for NHRA and IHRA Super Stock racing, they were white and had fiberglass hoods with a forward-facing hood scoop.
