Summary

[edit]
Description

Red. In 1966 Dodge offered three different wheelbases. The C body full size Dodge was the Polara, the Monaco and the Monaco 500. The A body compact was the Dart 170, 270 and GT. The Coronet was now the mid size model, built on the Mopars B Body platform, (same platform as the Plymouth Belvedere and Satellite) the Coronet was available in 4 models; base, Deluxe, 440 and 500 The Dodge Charger 2 door Hardtop muscle car was also introduced in 1966, also sharing the B Body platform. The Charger shared the front sheet metal with the Coronet but got an 'electric shaver' grille with rotating headlights and full width tail light. Unique to this first generation (1966-67) was the fastback, they were also more luxurious than later cars with 4 bucket seats and full length console. The difference between the very similar 66 and 67 Chargers is that 67s have turn signal indicators mounted on the leading edge of the front fenders. The 66 Chargers have a console that runs from the dash to the rear seats, while 67 Chargers console runs only between the front seats.

1966 Charger engines: 230hp 318, 265hp 361, 325hp 383 and 425hp 426 Hemi V8s (361 replaced with 440 in 1967)
