| Description |
The Mk I was built from 1959-67. Starting off called the Morris Mini Minor and The Austin 7, then called the Morris Mini and Austin Mini in 1961. The new Mini was a very influential design, with its transverse engine, front wheel drive and independent suspension. It featured the 1st 10 inch wheels, sliding side windows with storage pockets below Built from 1963-69. John Cooper helped improve the Mini to ready it for racing, it got twin SU carbs, close ratio gearbox and front disc brakes, with 997cc, they called it the Mini Cooper. The 1963 Cooper S got the larger 1071cc or 1275cc engine. This car is an ex works rally car, first raced in the 1967 European Rally Championship and later in the year brought to Australia to compete there 3 Austin Mini Cooper S's were also made famous in the 1969 movie, the Italian Job starring Michael Caine. The Minis were used to transport stolen gold through Turin |
