Onyx. Edsel Ford introduced the Mercury in 1939 as a model to fill the gap between the basic Ford, and the luxury Lincoln. The sixth generation Monterey (1965-68) was redesigned with a more slab sided look. The Monterey was the base model below the Montclair and the top of the line Parklane. For 1965, a flat fronted car, the grille stepping out in the centre, the Monterey was available in 2 and 4 door Sedans, 2 and 4 door Hardtops and Convertible, the Breezeway window was available on the 4 door Sedan, the Marauder had a fastback roof, bucket seats and a console.
