Summary

[edit]
Description

The Ford Anglia was first introduced in 1939, built in the UK over four generations, generally the Anglia was a 2 door Sedan, the Prefect, the 4 door version. Australian versions included 2 door Tourers and Coupe Utilitys. The last Anglia produced before being replaced by the Ford Escort, was the 1959-68 105E, it featured prominent eye headlamps, backward slanted rear window and tail fins, powered by the new 39hp 997cc Kent OHV 4 cyl. Originally available as just a 2 door saloon, then from 1961, an estate and van too. Two models were available from 1959; the Standard, (narrow painted slatted grille and less chrome) and the Deluxe, (single chrome side strip, full width chrome grille). In 1962, a more upmarket model was introduced, the 123E Anglia Super, identified by twin chrome side strips, contrasting coloured roof and side flash and larger 49hp 1198cc Kent OHV 4 cyl engine. (From 1964, this engine was available in all models, 46 or 49hp)

Anglia 105E based Thames 307E 5 cwt and 7cwt Vans were released in 1961 with the 997cc engine. (1198cc 309E from 1962) Although they shared some front body panels with the Anglia Saloon, the vans were structurally quite different and had a taller windscreen and differently shaped side doors. In 1965, the Thames name dropped, vans were then Anglia vans until production ended in 1967.
