| Description |
From 1962, Fords mainstream cars were available in three sizes; the compact Falcon, the intermediate sized Fairlane and the full size Galaxie. The 1963 Galaxie got a mild facelift, now with a concave grille, it was now produced in in four different models; The new no frills Ford 300. The Galaxie was still available in 2 and 4 door Sedan. The Galaxie 500 got a more upmarket interior and more chrome, available in the posted 2 and 4 door sedans, also the pillarless 2 and 4 door Hardtops and 2 door Sunliner Convertible. The top of the line Galaxie 500 XL was available in 2 and 4 door Hardtops and 2 door Sunliner Convertible. They got a luxurious new bucket seat / console interior. A new better looking coupe was added mid year, the Sports Hardtop, available on Galaxie 500 and 500 XL, it got a lower, fastback roofline, the better aerodynamics made the big cars more competitive on the NASCAR tracks. Wagons; 2 door Ranch, 4 door Country and top Country Squire Engines; 138hp 223 cu in 6 cyl. The 164hp 260 V8 was replaced mid year with the 195hp 289 and the 405hp 406 replaced with the 425hp 427 cu in. the 220hp 352 and 300hp 390 V8s also still available. |
