Summary

[edit]
Description

GM created Pontiac in 1926, sold beside the more expensive Oakland. The Oakland was dropped in 1933, the Pontiac continued to be sold until 2010. As well as the US, Canada offered a range of Pontiacs from the 1950s through 1970s. They were built for the Canadian market and for export to the likes of Australia and New Zealand in CKD form. From 1955-70, these Canadian Pontiacs used full-size Chevrolet chassis, drive trains, and other parts, right hand drive cars had Chevrolet dashes. Body shells were used similar in to, but not interchangeable with, the U.S. Catalina. Model names differed, by 1959 the Canadian models were named Strato Chief, Laurentian and Pontiac Parisienne. In 1962, the Laurentian was available in all the body styles used for the Chevrolet Bel Air, including hardtop coupes and sedans.
