Description

Originally a bicycle manufacturer, Humber built it's first four wheel car in 1901. Acquired Commer in 1925 and Hillman in 1928. In 1932 Humber was taken over by the Rootes Group. In 1970, the Rootes Group was taken over by the Chrysler Corporation, the Humber name shelved in 1976. The Super Snipe was first introduced in 1938, it got the 4 litre engine from the Humber Pullman and the body of the Humber Snipe. They were only available as a 4 door saloon. These first Super Snipes were the Mk I -Mk IV In 1958, a new Super Snipe was introduced, with a more modern appearance, now Series I to Series V 1958 Series I got a 2651cc 6 cyl 1959 Series II got larger 2965cc engine , disc brakes and a badge rather than letters on front edge of bonnet. 1960 Series III and on got a new full width grille and 4 headlights 1962 Series IV rear window didn't wrap around as far, Snipe bird badge on grille, opening quarter-light windows in the rear doors 1964 Series V restyled; flatter roofline, six-light design and a larger, taller windscreen

Rootes Australia also built the Humber Super Snipe, from 1953-69, two years after production ended in the UK.
