| Description |
Originally from 1939 Facel made bodies for Simca, Ford, Panhard and Delahaye. In 1953, set about designing and making their own complete cars using engines made by Chrysler, Volvo and Austin. Their first design named Vega was shown to the public in 1954. The first car, the very luxurious 1954 Facel Vega FV 2 door Coupe was fitted with the DeSoto Firedome 4.5 litre Hemi V8 engine.The dashboard was aircraft-inspired, and one of the first to feature a middle console over the gearbox, the rear seats folded flat to provide a luggage platform and additional access to the boot. In 1955, the FV1, capacity was increased to 200hp 4.8 litres and then later in the year 250hp (FV2) 1956 saw an updated style, the FVS with wrap around front windscreen and in 1957, stacked headlights introduced. In 1958 the engine grew to 325hp 5.8 litres and the 4 door version the Excellence introduced. The HK500 was introduced in 1959, with 350hp 6.3 litre Chrysler V8. The crisply designed Facel Vega II replaced the HK500 in 1962 |
