Description

1958 Austin Lancer Series 1

The 1958-62 Austin Lancer and similar Wolseley 1500 and Morris Major were built by BMC of Australia. The 1958-59 Series I Lancer & Major were basic versions of the English Wolselely 1500 and Riley 1.5 (the Riley not being sold in Australia). All 4 cars had the 1489cc B engine. The 1959-62 Series II Lancer and Major varied more from the English cars with tailfins and new front sheet metal, they were 9 inches longer, running gear strengthened for Australian conditions. There was no Wolseley 1500 Series II in Australia.

In 1962, Austin Lancer was discontinued and the Morris got a facelift and was now called the Major Elite. It was built until 1964.
