The Chrysler Corporation, founded in 1925, expanded in 1928, establishing Plymouth and DeSoto brands, they also acquired Fargo Trucks and Dodge Brothers Motors and started selling vehicles under those names. For 1955 the Desoto got a new look, now longer and wider, often accentuated by a 2 tone exterior finish. The interior offered bench seating that could accommodate 6 passengers. Three models of Desoto were available for the local US market in 1956: Although now the base model (top model for 52-54), the Firedome still came standard with a V8 and a host of standard features. It was available in; 2 and 4 door Sportsman Hardtops, lower priced 2 and 4 door Seville Hardtops, 2 door Convertible, 4 door Sedan and Wagon. The upmarket Fireflite was first introduced in 1955. Available in 2 and 4 door Sportsman Hardtop or Convertible and 4 door Sedan. The Adventurer 2 door Hardtop, introduced in 1956, had a hi-output 341 cubic inch Hemi V8, gold plated grille, turbine style wheels and other custom appointments and trim.
