From the late 1930s to the early 1950s, you could not swing a tire iron without hitting a car that used Special or Deluxe in the model name. By the mid 1950s the marketing teams were spinning out lofty names inspired by graceful animals, elegant locations or mythical creatures. Some cars came and went, but some names survived. The pool of my source images were generally taken close to the geographic center of North America. Imports were late to arrive and were not very diverse, so this project will focus on U.S. production vehicles. There is a limit of 25 photographs, so names that cross corporate lines will be displayed in preference of names resurrected within a company. Some names may be considered heritage though, for example Eagle used by AMC then by Chrysler Corporation. The names may relate to model, trim level or body style.
