| Description |
Armstrong Siddeley was a British engineering group, operating from 1919 to 1960, they built luxury vehicles and aircraft engines. The Sapphire was one of Armstrong Siddeley's last cars produced from 1952-60, it replaced the Armstrong Siddeley Whitley. The 346 was the first of the Sapphires built from 1952-58. The body was available as a four- or six-light (two or three windows on each side) and with either a bench or individual front seats. The seats were finished in leather, with the dashboard and door-cappings in walnut veneer. A heater was standard. It became available with automatic transmission (Rolls Royce four-speed) with the introduction of the Mark II in 1954. A long-wheelbase model was launched in 1955 as a limousine version Engine; 150hp 3425cc 6 cyl The 1958-60 model was the Star Sapphire. Though little changed externally, the radiator grille no longer rose to the top of the bonnet. The engine was enlarged to 3990 cc and power output increased to 165hp |
