Summary

[edit]
Description

Edsel Ford introduced the Mercury in 1939 as a model to fill the gap between the basic Ford, and the luxury Lincoln. The first Monterey was introduced in 1950 as a high-end 2 door coupe as part of the Mercury Eight series. Mercury got a styling and engineering redesign for 1952, they had frenched headlights, a one-piece curved windshield, wraparound rear window and a faux hood scoop. The Monterey became a separate series, it was Mercury's top model, the Custom, the base model. The Monterey got chrome rocker panels, a stainless 'C' panel, upscale wheel covers and two tone paint. The 1953 facelft saw 'Dagmar' or pointed front bumper guards and full-length body side trim spears, and a wagon was now available In 1954 another facelift included new wraparound taillights and the bar between 'bullet' bumper guards got a ribbed look. In 1954, the Custom was available in 2 or 4 door Sedan and 2 door Hardtop. The Monterey in 4 door Sedan or Wagon, 2 door Convertible or 2 door Hardtop Coupe (including the new 'Sun Valley' Hardtop Coupe, with Plexiglas front half roof similar to Fords Crestline Skyliner).
