Description

The Morgan 4-4 was the Morgan Motor Company's first car with 4 wheels, Earlier Morgans had been 3 wheelers with V twin engines, so the term 4-4 meant 4 wheels with 4 cylinders. The 1st of these cars, from 1936 were only available as 2 seaters with a 1122cc Coventry Climax 4 cyl engine. 4 seaters introduced in 1937 and a drophead coupe in 1938. Engine size increased in 1939 to a 1267cc OHV This continued in production until 1950 when it was replaced by the larger Plus 4. The Morgan Plus 4 built fom 1950-59, was longer and more powerful. The first Plus 4 got the 2088cc engine from the Standard Vanguard In 1953 a higher performance version was announced with the 1991cc engine from the Triumph TR2, grille was now surrounded by a cowl that blended into the bonnet From 1962 the engine was the Triumph TR4 unit, which increased displacement to 2138 cc
