General Motors was founded in 1908 by William Durant, who at the time was the General Manager of Buick (formed in 1899) In 1911, Durant formed a partnership with Belgian-born race-car driver, Louis Chevrolet and the Chevrolet Motor Company was born. Chevrolet introduced a new body in 1949, a softer, rounded look. For 1951, the grille got fine horizontal bars and round indicators were changed to oblong and dropped down lower 1951 trunkback models were again the; Base JJ Styleline Special; 2 door Business Coupe, Sport Coupe, 2 and 4 door Sedans. Upmarket JK Styleline Deluxe (fender skirts and stainless steel mouldings to front fenders and doors); 2 door Sport Coupe, Convertible, 2 and 4 door Sedans and Wagon Also the Styleline Deluxe Bel Air 2 door Hardtop. Also available was the fastback models; The base Fleetline Special and upmarket Fleetline Deluxe were both available in 2 and 4 door Sedans Chevrolet sedans were also produced in Australia by General Motors using modified American bodies from 1926-68.
