GM created Pontiac in 1926, as a cheaper line of 6 cyl cars, sold beside the more expensive Oakland. The Oakland was dropped in 1933, leaving just the Pontiac, which was then sold along side the 4 cyl Chevrolet. From 1947 Pontiacs were available in Standard or Deluxe. A new shape was introduced in 1949, body lines were lower and the fenders were more integrated into the body, the Torpedo was now the Chieftan, the fastback Streamliner still available. Standard trim models in 1949 got rubber gravel guards and body colored headlight trim rings. Deluxe trim; stainless steel gravel guards and stainless headlight rings. Silver Streak lettering was placed above front fender spears, eights had an 8 between the words. 1950 Pontiacs were very similar, prominent teeth in the grille and the grille bars now wrapped around the corner of the body, the Catalina 2 door Hardtop introduced 1951, very similar again, a V was now seen in the centre of the grille. 1949 Standard and Deluxe Chieftans, available in 2 and 4 door Sedans and 2 door Coupe, the Deluxe Chieftan Convertible as well. 1949 Standard and Deluxe Streamliners, available in 2 door Coupe, 4 door Sedan and Wagon.
