| Description |
The Buick Motor Company was formed in 1903, it was General Motors' upmarket car, second only to Cadillac. 1942 saw another new design, the Buick was longer, lower, wider and roomier with a massive chrome vertical bar grille and long front fenders continuing well into the door. Soon after its release, production was interrupted by World War II, but resumed in 1946. Styling was more or less unchanged for the rest of the decade. For 1946, the top of the grille revised and the 'bomb sight' hood ornament introduced. 1947/48 cars got a heavier chrome grille surround The 1948 121 inch wheelbase Series 40 Special, with 110hp 248 cu in, was available in 2 or 4 door Sedan The 124 inch wheelbase Series 50 Super, 115hp 248 cu in, available in 2 and 4 door Sedan, Convertible and Wagon The 129 inch wheelbase Series 70 Roadmaster, 144hp 320 cu in, available in 2 and 4 door Sedan, Convertible and Wagon. The 1946-48 Buicks were also built in Australia by GMH, like this car. Only 40 Series Sedans were built there, now varying very little from their US counterparts |
