| Description |
The Austin Motor Company of England built cars from 1905. In 1952 the Austin Motor Company merged with Morris Motors Limited to form BMC (British Motor Corporation), they sold Morris, Austin, Wolseley, Riley and MG cars. The Austin name was used up until 1987. The Austin 8 replaced the Austin Big 7, construction was now more advanced, it got a new chassis and new suspension. The nose was now rounded with horizontal bars, the bonnet now hinged at the rear. The 1939-43 pre war Austin 8 was available in 4 light 2 door Saloon, 6 light 4 door Saloon, 2 or 4 seat Tourers and a Van, it had painted headlights. They were produced into the War, at least until 1942, where 2 seat Tourers were built for the Military, the rest saloons.
