Description
English: Trolley Track Removal

In November 1942, the Lehigh Valley Transit Company allowed Muhlenberg College students to remove unused trolley track rails to donate them for use in World War II defense industries. The state highway department provided special tools, along with shovels and weed cutting equipment to the students to aid them in their effort.

The removed rails were then cut into smaller sections and taken to Traylor Engineering on South 10th Street. The steel rails were then melted down and sent to munitions manufacturers, where it was used in the production of munitions as part of the war effort.
