GM created Pontiac in 1926, as a cheaper line of 6 cyl cars. New for the 1936 Pontiac was the 'Silver Streak' trim; a bright metal band running along the hood and down the front of the radiator, a feature that lasted for 20 years. New for 1939, was a cheaper 6 cyl line, the Quality 6, using the shorter 115in wheelbase Chevrolet body with Pontiac front clip. 1939 front end styling included catwalk infills between the hood and fenders, which received chrome waterfall grilles each side. The Quality 6 available in 2 and 4 door Touring Sedan (with trunk) and 2 door Coupe. The 120 in wheelbase Deluxe 6 and Deluxe 8 were available in 2 and 4 door Touring Sedan, 2 door Coupe, Sport Coupe and Convertible Pontiacs, along with many other brands, were also produced in Australia by Holden Motor Body Builders from 1927-31 (and from then became General Motors Holden) Local bodies were built on an imported chassis. 6 cyl Pontiac 4 door Sedans and 2 door Sloper Coupes were produced there in 1939 The Chieftan was bult in Australia from 1937-58, they came from Canada with Chev engines in CKD form. In 1939, the Australian models door handles were in line with body trim, Canadian models handles were below the trim.
