General Motors was founded in 1908 by William Durant, who at the time was the General Manager of Buick (formed in 1899) In 1911, Durant formed a partnership with Belgian-born race-car driver, Louis Chevrolet and the Chevrolet Motor Company was born. Little changed for 1939; a refreshed front clip, the main grille wrapping around further and two small grilles added either side at the front. Jump seats replaced rumble seats in the Sports Coupe, all Sedans had trunks by later in the year. The base JB Master 85 (I Beam front axle); 2 door Business Coupe, Coach and Town Sedan (trunk), 4 door Sedan Sport Sedan (trunk) and Wagon. The upmarket JA Master Deluxe (independent front suspension and upgraded interior); 2 door Business Coupe (2 seat), Coupe, Coach and Town Sedan, 4 door Sedan, Sport Sedan and Wagon. Chevrolets were also built in Australia from 1926-68. In 1939, models available in Australia were the 4 door Tourer and Sedan, 2 door Roadster, Utility and Sloper Coupe. With Australian models, the door handles were in line with body trim, American models, their handles were below the trim.
