English: 1938 Morgan 4/4 Le Mans Replica four-seater, chassis no 658, at the 2014 Lime Rock Concours d'Élegance. Full history here. This is the only Le Mans replica built with a four-seater body, amongst a total of about ten such models being finished. Fitted with a tuned, high compression (well - 7.5 to 1), twin-carb 1098cc Coventry Climax engine, it only had two owners in its first 74 years. In 1988 Morgan themselves stated that the car is "unique", and that it is "vitally important that this car be kept in the original specification". It was dismantled and stored in late 1940 to avoid it being requisitioned for the war effort, and was only reassembled in 1989 - still with its original Dunlop tyres! |
