| Description |
English: Photograph of the lower Hamilton Street Central Business District about 1938. Probably taken from one of the upper stories of the Commonwealth Building looking west. Note the Cameo Theater at 535 Hamilton. In 1941 it would close and later be reopened as the Transit and later Capri Theater. The streetcar stop in front of the Americus Hotel would welcome travelers from either the Lehigh Valley or New Jersey Central train station to the east of this photo at Third and Hamilton. The 1926 Zollinger-Harned Department store building is visible along with the Hamilton Hotel at Church Street, across from Zion's Church on the south side of Hamilton Street. |
