| Description |
The Model Y (or Ford Eight) was the first of the small English Fords, built from 1932-37. Available in 2 or 4 door Saloon and van, it was also built in France, Germany and Australia. Its radiator grille very similar styling to the American 1933 and 34 Model 18 Fords. In 1933 it got a taller radiator grille, known as the Longrads, early cars now known as the Shortrads. They were first imported into Australia in 1933, the Longrads not until 1934. In addition to the Saloon, Tourers, Roadsters, Coupes and Utilitys were built in Australia from 1935. It was replaced by the updated model, the 7Y (also called the Ford Eight), built from 1938-40, powered of course by the same engine, a new grille rounding back at the top, this styling leading to the first Anglia in 1939.
