Description

The first Riley motorcar was built in 1898. Riley merged with Morris Motors in 1938 and then with the Austin Motor Company in 1952 to form BMC (British Motor Corporation), they sold Morris, Austin, Wolseley, Riley and MG cars. The 1926-38 Riley Nine (9hp 1087cc 4 cyl) was a light car, designed by two of the Riley brothers, Percy designed the engine and Stanley, the chassis, suspension and body. The Nine was built with many different bodies and saw many improvements along the way Saloons were, the basic 4 door 1926-32 Monaco. Based on this car were the 1928-29 fabric body San Remo, 1929-32 Biarritz Deluxe, 1933-35 Falcon, 1933-35 Ascot drophead coupe and the 1933-35 Lincock Fixed head Coupe. A 4 seat Tourer was built from 1926-31.

The first of them had 4 stud wheels, then 5 stud, by 1929, the Mk IV had 6 stud wheels. In 1934 knock on hubs were introduced, bumpers came in 1935, bonnets lost their louvres and honeycomb grilles replaced with vertical slats in 1938
