Description

Durant Motors operated in Michigan in the USA from 1921-31. William Durant founded General Motors in 1908, in 1921 he founded his own company, the Durant Motor Company, he produced the Star, Flint and Rugby cars in competition to the Model T Ford, he also acquired luxury car maker Locomobile and Mason Trucks. The Durant Star was the local brand, Rugby was effectively a rebadged Star for export to the UK and Australia. Beside badges and right hand drive for some models, the vehicle was identical to Star. The Rugby was built from 1923 (Star: 1922) and production ended in 1928 together with the Star. In 1924, the M2 was the 107 inch wheelbase passenger car, featuring mechanical brakes, disc or wooden-spoke artillery wheels and semi-elliptic suspension all round. The S4 was the commercial model utilised the same running chassis and running gear Minimal numbers were also built in Sydney, Australia; Tourers, Sedans, Roadsters, Coupes, Vans and Light Trucks
