[edit]Description1917-07-19 Sestola Pavullo Caesar Enzo.jpg |
English: Ca 19 years old Enzo Ferrari (born 1898) in a Caesar automobile, partaking in the uphill hillclimbing "raid" between Sestola and Pavullo nel Frignano on 19 June 1917. This is oftenly claimed to be the first photograph of Enzo in an automobile. Sestola is right outside Modena where Enzo lived. A handwriting on the back of same/similar photograph says "Distance 26,475 km, gradients up to 12%, time 36’12”."[1] Same source says this was an automobile built by Caesar Scacchi of Torino, proprietor of the Scacchi & C., Fabbrica Automobili company. They existed 1912 to 1915 and called the car "Scacchi" in Italy and "Caesar" if not in Italy (!), making 3-4 models, some of which raced. Diatto took over in 1915. Note, that the previous source says they got this image file from Adolfo Orsi, which can be seen imprinted on the image itself. He is the descendant of the Orsi family of Modena who owned Maserati. The image was purchased just after Enzo's death in 1988.[2] According to this source, the race was not a competition, but referred to as a RAID, meaning they got together to drive some difficult roads. |
