The Cadillac Automobile Company was founded in 1903. In 1909 Cadillac was acquired by General Motors, it was GMs premier luxury car, also specialising in commercial chassis, used for limousines, ambulances and hearses. Cadillacs first cars were powered by a centrally mounted single cyl engine, four cyl cars were first introduced in 1905; The 1905 Model D had a 30hp 300 cu in L-head four cyl 1906 got the much improved Model H and larger 40hp 393 cu in Model L (A smaller version in 1907 was the 20hp 226 cu in Model G) The Cadillac Model 30 produced from 1909-1914, it replaced all the 1908 models. With 106 inch wheelbase, it was available as a 3 passenger Roadster, 2 door Demi-Tonneau, or a 2 door Tourer, the engine was the 226 cu in 4 cyl from the Model G.

In 1910, Cadillac introduced the first US manufactured closed car, wheelbase now 110 inches, engine 255 cu in.

The 1912 Model 30 was built on a 116 inch wheelbase, engine 286 cu in, electric starting, ignition and lighting were introduced 1913; wheelbase 120 inches, cubic capacity was up to 365 cu in This Cadillac was first sold in New Zealand, it's body made and fitted there.
