Summary
[edit]Description1913 Ford Model T T1 Tourer (19830968119).jpg |
English: Ford Model T Touring Car. This car is unusual: it has a "1913" badge, but at first glance it is of 1915–1916 style, especially the flared "cowl" behind the hood and the straight windshield without support rods. Other features, such as the hood without louvres and the straight rear fenders, are of pre-1915 type, and the doors are 1913-style. The gas headlamps could be either vintage, since such headlamps were still in use on some early 1915 cars. The wire-spoked wheels are custom.
"The Model T Ford was built from 1908-1927. The Ford Motor Company was established in 1903, a few models were built before the Model T, but the T was the first mass produced car. Henry Ford wanted to keep the price low as possible so every middle class American could afford one, so to increase efficiency, he was the first to use assembly line production. Ford made use of the knock-down kit concept, so almost from the beginning, the Model T was built in other countries as well as the US, such as England and Australia. In Australia Ford cars were supplied by Ford Canada to avoid extra import duties imposed on non-Empire produced goods. They were originally shipped virtually complete, but as the number of local body building operations grew motor cars were increasingly delivered as CKD form. 1909-14 T1; Flat top hood, flat cowl below screen and gas lights. Cars from 1913 to 14 had the dog leg windscreen 1915-16 T2; louvres in hood, contoured cowl, electric lights.. 1917-23 T3; Hood tapered with a curved top, hinges moved. 1923-25 T4; Angled Screen, taller and wider at firewall. 1926-27 T5; Wire wheels, cowl now similar to Model A. From 1914-26 Model Ts were; any colour so long as it is black Engine; 20hp 177 Cu in" |
