Summary

[edit]
Description
English: 1911 postcard photograph of the Jefferson Elementary School.

In 1907, the 12th Ward was established on land south of the Little Lehigh. Jefferson Elementary had begun as a one-room brick schoolhouse built by the Salisbury Township School District in 1858 on the north side of Auburn Street. In 1910 it was replaced by a two-story ten-room brick building and adjacent playground at the intersection of South 8th Street and St. John Street to accommodate the students in South Allentown

The sign over the entrances of the building indicate separate entrances for boys and girls
