Description/Blazon

  • Shield: Per bend Argent and Gules, in chief a Malayan bear’s head affronté erased Proper and in base the Burmese insignia of six stars of the first.
  • Crest: That for the regiments and separate battalions of the California Army National Guard:  On a wreath of the colors Argent and Gules, the setting sun behind a grizzly bear passant on a grassy field all Proper.  That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Oregon Army National Guard:  On a wreath of the colors Argent and Gules, a demi-disc Gules charged with the setting sun with twelve light rays Or (the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 41st Division), behind a beaver sejant Proper.
  • Motto: EARNEST ENDEAVOR.

Symbolism

  • Shield: The colors red and white are for Engineers.  The Burmese stars indicate one battle honor awarded the organization for service in that area, while the Malayan bear, indigenous to Burma and the Malay Peninsula, represents the other battle honor.
  • Crest: The crests are that of the California and Oregon Army National Guard.

Background

The coat of arms was approved on 6 May 1952.
