Description
English: 1905 - Eighth and Hamilton Streets looking South

This postcard photograph shows the location of the Lehigh Valley Transit Company at 768 Hamilton Street. The transfer point at the time was housed in the Samuel B. Anewalt Company, a dealer in hats. He was a Civil War Veteran who served in Co. H, 2701 Regiment, Emergency Troops, under Capt. Isaac N. Gregory, in which company he held the rank of corporal.

After his return Mr. Anewalt entered the hat business, forming a partnership with his brother, John C., under the firm name of Anewalt& Brother, which continued until 1896, when John C. died, and Mr. Anewalt continued the business, taking in his sons as partners, under the firm name of S. B. Anewalt & Company, until he retired from active business in 1908.

After that time the business was conducted by his sons, William H. and Samuel Jr. It closed about 1933 during the Great Depression and the transfer station was moved across the street to 801 Hamilton Street.
