Summary
[edit]Description18 June 1815 – Victory at Waterloo – The Waterloo Despatch – (1870).jpg |
English: Title : "Wellington writing the Waterloo Dispatch."
Anonymous and undated (1840 to 1870) etching published August 2nd, 1870 by Selig Lipschitz (1831-1894), Hamburg and London. As to the main features of the setting, this etching is clearly but somewhat freely inspired by the 1839 original painting by Lady Burghersh, niece of Lord Wellington, of which only etchings have been published : ►(File:18 June 1815 – Victory at Waterloo – The Waterloo Despatch.jpg). The actual room – and the type of field-table (said to be the very table) used by Lord Wellington on that historic early morning of 19th June 1815 – is shown ►(File:18 June 1815 – Victory at Waterloo – The Waterloo Despatch, 2015.jpg). The room where Sir Alexander Gordon had died a few instants before : ►(File:18 June 1815 – Waterloo – Duke of Wellington's Headquarters – Sir Alexander Gordon.jpg) was not en-suite, as imagined by Lady Burghersh and depicted here as well, but juxtaposed to Lord Wellington's one. |
