18 June 1815 – Victory at Waterloo – La Belle Alliance, original tablet

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The white marble tablet originally affixed above the front door of the Belle Alliance Inn ►(File:18_June_1815_–_Victory_at_Waterloo_–_Generalfeldmarschall_Blücher's_Report,_La_Belle_Alliance.jpg) soon after the Victory is now preserved in the Wellington Museum, Waterloo, Room 11 (dedicated to the Prussian Army).

The Prussian contribution to the victory over the napoléonic régime started for real with the long overlooked December 30th, 1812 Convention of Tauroggen ►(File:Convention_of_Tauroggen_-_Overall_view.JPG) – then close to the border between the Prussian Kingdom and the Russian Empire, now Tauragė, Lithuania.

The information note next to the tablet reads :
(FR) "Plaque commémorative, anciennement placée au-dessus de la porte de l'estaminet de la Belle-Alliance"
(EN) "Commemorative plaque formerly positioned above the door of La Belle Alliance Inn"
(NL) "Gedenkplaat die vroeger boven de deur van de herberg van La Belle-Alliance hing"
(DE) "Gedenkplakette, die früher ihren Platz über der Tür zum Gasthaus "Belle-Alliance" hatte"

At the bottom, the nearly washed out inscription : Estaminet, was added by the owner of said estaminet (inn).

Replacement tablet on the façade of the former Belle Alliance inn : ►(File:18_June_1815_–_Victory_at_Waterloo_–_La_Belle_Alliance,_replacement_tablet.jpg).

NOTE : the coordinates correspond to the very spot where the tablet was first posted : above the front door of the former inn. The tablet itself is now exhibited in the Wellington Museum. Today, a replica has succeeded the original on the façade facing the road N.5.
