Малюнок був виконаний під час перебування експедиції у форті Карабутак (21 травня 1848 р. і завершений не пізніше 15 січня 1850 р., на час підготовки звіту О.Бутакова про Аральську описову експедицію. Карабутак - російське військове укріплення. Його було закладено 1848 р. за наказом оренбурзького генерал-губернатора, командира Окремого оренбурзького корпусу В. П. Обручова. На час приходу експедиції вже були виведені стіни укріплення. Про перебування тут учасників експедиції відомо з листа О. Бутакова до О.Меншикова від 28 червня 1848 р.: Наш загін выступив у степ 11 травня, а 21 прибув на Кара-Бутак, де вже були зведені стіни нового форту, ми тут днювали. |
