Title
183 knotched backed blade, reverse.jpg
Description
English: Notched blade
Late Palaeolithic
Length 84mm, width 40mm, thickness 19mm.

Bulb of percussion on the top of the ventral with very slight ripples emanating outwards. Blade running down two thirds of the length of the artefact on either side. (When looking at the dorsal side) The right side blade has slight evidence of retouch, with pressure flakes being removed from the ventral side. The left blade has pressure flakes removed from both the ventral and dorsal sides, two thirds of the way down this blade terminates in a semicircular notch (11mm wide, 6mm deep) that has been removed from the ventral side. The dorsal face is convex with one arrise running down the right side, however, extensive flaking scars have removed much of the surface around the notch.

The last third is very uneven with extensive flaking scars over the whole surface and the remains of an off white cortex in the bottom right-hand corner. There are signs of retouch on the left-hand side, removed from the dorsal side, that would be a straight sided scrapper with a steep bevel.

The patina is a creamy grey at the top, darkening to a mid grey in the centre and finishing in a dark grey/brown at the base.
